Let Glasgow Flourish Again
As I have looked at the history of Christianity in Scotland, I can't help asking myself where it all went astray. I recall inspiring stories of amazing Scottish saints: George Wishart and John Knox were two men who were part of the reformation; the Covenanters also come to mind; Scotland used to send missionaries all over the world preaching the gospel, two such people being Mary Slessor and David Livingstone (these people are still on our currency today).
So what's happened? To me the main reason is this: the Word of God is not being taught. Biblical teaching has been compromised for the sake of helping people to feel good and not be challenged. But guess what? We are to be challenged, refined and prepared to be used by God for His glory! God wants willing and obedient hearts. We should desire a heart like David's, namely "a man after God's heart". We have to keep the Lord on the throne of our hearts, to be humbly obedient before our amazing Lord.
For Scotland, I believe that we are in a time of preparation for the Lord to start a great work again, to stir up the saints with a common goal of the furtherance of the Gospel. We are called to spread the good news of Jesus to those in Scotland and Glasgow, that He is free to all (Scots love free stuff!), and be shining lights to the city of Glasgow. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14 NKJV) Let's pray for unity, to further the Gospel, and pray for His Word to be taught again.
