What We BelieveCalvary's core beliefs are based on the Bible as God's revealed word. We try daily to live by these beliefs: We Believe: The Bible is God's revelation of Himself to mankind. It was penned by man but the words were given to man by God. The message of the Bible is the creation and the fall of mankind followed by the salvation and restoration of mankind. Therefore, Biblical Christianity is not a religion, but a way of life. It does not leave mankind guessing how to please the great and awesome God. (Psalms 119, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21) We Believe: All people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin. Further, there is nothing we can do to improve our position with God. (Isaiah 64:6, Jeremiah 17:9-10, 1 Corinthians 15:22) We Believe: If a person is born again, that person will go to heaven and be with God from the instant that they die. Heaven is a place of incomprehensible beauty and joy for all of eternity. There is no sorrow, pain or suffering there. If a person is not born again, that person will go to hell, a place of torment. All will be conscious and aware of their surroundings for all of eternity. (2 Corinthians 5:8, 1 Peter 1:4, John 14:2, Revelation 20:11 and 21:21, Luke 16:22-24) |
We Believe: God is eternally existent in three separate persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is personal and the sovereign Creator of all things. (Matthew 28:19, Genesis 1:1, Ephesians 4:6, Isaiah 64:8) We Believe: Jesus is fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and provided for the atonement of our sins by His death on the cross. He was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit. He ascended to Heaven, back to the right hand of God the Father, where He lives always making intercession for us. (John 1:1, Matthew 1:23, 1 Timothy 2:5, Romans 10:9, John 21:14, Romans 8:34) We Believe: God poured out the Holy Spirit on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world, a commandment from God to all believers today as well. Today this is accomplished in much the same way: believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit upon accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. It is through the Spirit that believers commune with God. (Isaiah 63:10, Acts 5:3, John 14:16-17) We Believe: The gifts of the Holy Spirit recorded in the Bible remain in effect today. The greatest gift of all is love. For a more exhaustive list see 1 Corinthians 12:1-13. We Believe: Jesus will come again when the last person appointed to salvation is saved. This will be personal, pre-millennial and visible. (Revelation 1:7, Matthew 24:27 and Matthew 25:31, Acts 1:11, Hebrews 9:28) |
